Come aboard "Fender" my 18ft open
boat. A family boat for many years, which now caters for
small groups. Sit back and enjoy a 3 hour sightseeing trip
on the calm and sheltered waters of the river Torridge and
river Taw. This is such a beautiful area and Gary would be
proud to show you places that you can only see from the
river such as the shipyard, the new Tamar lifeboat close up
(he is an active RNLI crewmember) as well as Appledore and
Instow from the river. If time and tide permit, see the
maritime little white town of Bideford and its historic
bridge. This is not a true guided tour but Gary will be
happy to share his knowledge and favourite landmarks with
you and answer any questions you may have about the local
A real family favourite of ours is an evening trip to Weare
Giffard and we wanted to share this experience with you.
This trip depends on high tides, so is not a regular
destination, but when tide and weather permit, we stop at
Bideford on the way so you can get a famous "Hockings ice
cream" (made in Appledore). We continue up the river
Torridge to Weare Giffard where the trees overhang the river
banks and as the river narrows, it moves away from the road
noise – a little piece of Devon heaven. A camera is a must
as there is usually plenty of bird life such as herons,
eagrets, ducks, swans, shags and cormorants and if you are
really lucky, the occasional kingfisher. This is Tarka the
otter territory, so fingers crossed that your trip will
include a glimpse of an otter. On the way back we can stop
at Bideford so you can get fish and chips or just a cup of
tea before heading back to Appledore. , so bring some money
for ice cream or fish and chips, or you can pack a luxury
picnic to enjoy on the way…. This trip also runs early
mornings depending on tides. Call Gary for more information.
Prices start from £15.00 per person depending on the trip.
I'm in the water for the season from mid April and I am
taking bookings now! Should you like to book or have any
questions please contact me on 07866 314260.
As an active member of
the RNLI for over 20 years you're in safe hands with all

I can organise trips to suit just you or you, your family
and friends. I hopefully look forward to welcoming you
P.S. New to the area? On holiday with
your boat? Just got your first boat? Need a local knowledge
Let me help you and show you the local area…Where to
go on the river and what to stay away from. This is not a
RYA course with an exam but is practical advice from someone
who knows the area to help you get confident on the river
with your own boat. Please note Gary still recommends that
you do an RYA course, as well as this knowledge trip. Please
call for prices, if you have any questions or would like to
book: 07866 314260
Gary also recommends that you use the RNLI free service that
looks at the safety aspects of your boat.
